Location Data (Foreground and Background Access)

Our mobile app accesses and uses your device’s location services to deliver its core functionality as a local city guide and tour guide. This includes both foreground (when the app is open and in active use) and background (when the app is closed, minimized, or running in the background) location access.

We access precise location data (via GPS and other device sensors) in the following ways and for these specific purposes:

Foreground location access is used to:

  • Display your current position on the interactive tour map.
  • Provide real-time guidance and directions during your tour.
  • Show nearby historical, cultural, and local business information relevant to your position.

Background location access is essential to the app’s main purpose and delivers clear value by enabling:

  • Notifications when you reach upcoming tour stops or points of interest (via badge and toast notifications), even if the app is not actively open.
  • Tracking your progress along the tour route to ensure seamless continuation.

Without background location access, the app would not function as intended—you would miss real-time notifications and guidance for tour stops while moving between points, rendering the guided tour experience unusable or significantly degraded. Users reasonably expect this behaviour in navigation and tour-guide apps (similar to mapping or fitness tracking apps).

Location data is processed in real-time only for these tour-related features and is not stored, logged, or archived on our servers after your session ends or when you disable location access. We do not retain identifiable location history.

Your location data is used solely for providing tour guidance, notifications, and related features. It is never shared with third parties, sold, used for advertising, marketing, profiling, or any other purpose. We do not combine it with other personal data.

You control location access at any time:

  • Grant or revoke permissions via your device settings for the Dux app.
  • Disabling background access will limit notifications and progress tracking but allow basic foreground mapping.

This disclosure appears prominently in the app on first use, explaining the need for access before you grant permission.

Analytics and Crash Reporting

To improve app performance, stability, and user experience, we use Google Firebase services, including:

  • Google Analytics for Firebase: Collects anonymous usage data such as app events, session duration, device information (e.g., model, OS version), approximate location (country/region level only), and interactions within the app. This helps us understand how users engage with tours and features to make improvements.
  • Firebase Crashlytics: Collects anonymous crash logs, error reports, device state information (e.g., device type, OS), and performance metrics when the app crashes or encounters issues. This data helps us identify and fix bugs quickly.

All data collected through these services is anonymous—it does not include personal identifiers like names, emails, precise locations, or content from your tours. No personally identifiable information is collected or linked.

This data is processed by Google in accordance with their privacy terms (see Google’s Firebase Privacy Notice: https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy). It is used solely for app improvement, debugging, and aggregated insights—not for advertising or sharing with other parties.
